Welcome to The Groomed Rattery. Like most ratterys, mine is a closed rattery. So here is a way to see inside:
Female Cage:
This is a Critter Nation Double cage. Its dimensions are: 36x24x63
It’s a big enough cage to hold all my girl rats, and it still has room to add more rats if needed.
It’s also big enough so they can play and get plenty of exercise.
In these cages there are many hideaways, chew toys, and a soft fleece bed.
Male Cage:
This is a Critter Nation Double cage. Its dimensions are: 36x24x63
It’s a big enough cage to hold all my boy rats, and it still has room to add more rats if needed.
It’s also big enough so they can play and get plenty of exercise.
In these cages there are many hideaways, chew toys, and a soft fleece bed.
Nursing Cages:
I use ten gallon tanks for my nursing cages, with snap on lids. They are small enough so it’s easier for mamma rat to keep track of her babies.
In these cages they have a comfortable bed for babies to stay warm and a low positioned water bottle so they can drink water when they are ready
Cleaning Time:
I remove all the bedding and waste from their cages every 4 days. Trays are removed, washed, and rinsed thoroughly.
I remove all their hideaways and toys and wash them every 8 days.
When it is cleaning time rats stay in there cage unless it is bath day.
My rats get a bath about once a month. When it is bath time they get to go swimming and play in the bathtub.
Food And Bedding:
On my home page I wrote information about food and bedding. I wrote that information not only because of research and study, but also because I use the same food and bedding I recommend. To avoid over posting the same information, please look over my home page for what I feed and what bedding I use for my rats.
My rats are feed daily, and sometimes they get spoiled even further and are given a few bits of what we had for dinner that night.
How I Discovered The Rat:
My first rat was a pet store rat. At that time I knew very little about rats, but heard good things about them and wanted to give them try. After having this rat for a few months, I realized this pet was not like any rodent I’ve ever came crossed. She wanted to be played with, and be around me and other people. She was smart, very social and never tried to bite. It fascinated me how this little critter could be so interesting and fun. I started to take her to my sons baseball games and realized how many people really think negatively about rats. This is when i started my research, talking to other ratterys, and getting into the rat world. I wanted to share my love of rats to other people, and hopefully show that rats are truly great pets. I continue to do research and talk to other ratterys for advice and for breeding options. I continue to learn more every day, and owe my love to rats to my first rat “Noodle”.
